What does every kids’ Halloween party need?

What is one of your favorite Halloween traditions?
We’re sister-creators and moms to five kids, so we love making homemade costumes with our kids. We’ve made monsters, mushrooms, unicorns, a classic stand-up mixer, a mailbox, Humpty Dumpty—the more creative, the better!
Are there any fun activities or crafts you incorporate into your Halloween parties?
Homemade slime is always a winner, though it can get messy! We also love inviting kids to decorate mini-pumpkins with simple techniques like this no-carve method, or using no-mess sticker kits like this one by Meri Meri. We also love giving out party favors like temporary tattoos, stickers, or nail stickers in lieu of candy.
What is something all Halloween party hosts should consider?
We tend to think of Halloween parties as open houses with guests stopping by on foot on their way to or from trick-or-treating. Before hosting a party, ask yourself: Is there good parking in my neighborhood? Is there plenty of good trick-or-treating nearby? Consider handing out maps highlighting the best walkable trick-or-treating streets in your area.
How do you approach decorating for a Halloween party?
We love starting with a partyware set, like our Meowloween collection from Daydream Society, which makes it much easier to create a fun, cohesive look. We take cues from the color palette and theme to choose other décor items. To really set the mood, we like making a big statement with a balloon wall or banner. We also love using fresh flowers to brighten any party!
What is a fun, on-theme sweet treat or dish that you would serve at a kids’ Halloween party?
We love making a big charcuterie board with a mix of healthy and sweet treats in a brown, blue, orange, black, and white color palette. Our favorite items are blueberries, yogurt-dipped pretzels, clementines, Oreos, dried apricots, mini peanut butter cups, Mellowcreme pumpkins, and yogurt-covered raisins. Add edible candy eyeballs to make any food silly and spooky, with a dab of icing!
As creatives, what makes celebrating Halloween special to you?
Halloween is the best excuse to craft a super creative costume and try new crafting techniques, like sewing, painting, or working with foam or cardboard. There are so many great ideas and tutorials online!
Any tips for making the party fun for adult guests as well?
A big charcuterie board is our go-to for feeding a crowd! We also love getting creative with spooky-themed cocktails!
Any other tips for entertaining?
Choose a super fun invitation to set the mood, and send it out at least four weeks in advance to give guests plenty of time to get it on their calendars!
